Fire alarm design and commissioning is a specialist discipline in its own right, governed by BS 5839-1 for non-domestic and BS 5839-6 for domestic. We install the system to a competent third-party specialist's design; we don't pretend to design it in-house.
Panel installation
Fire alarm control panel installed in the location specified in the design, usually the main entrance, with mains supply and battery backup properly wired.
Devices, detectors, call points, sounders
Optical, ionisation and heat detectors, manual call points and sounders installed to the third-party specialist's device schedule and zoning plan.
Categories (L1–L5, P1–P2, M)
Correct category installation, L1 (full protection), L2 (life protection with extra escape route cover), L3 (escape routes), L4 (escape routes only), L5 (bespoke), M (manual only), as specified by the fire risk assessment.
